Common Cosmetic Dentistry Procedures To Improve Your Smile

Cosmetic dentistry is a branch of dentistry that focuses on improving the aesthetic appearance of the smile. Some cosmetic procedures are considered elective treatments; however, some cosmetic dentistry treatments are medically necessary for the health of a patient’s smile. The major cosmetic dentistry treatments are as follows:

  • Dental Veneers

Dental veneers are thin porcelain shells bonded to the front of teeth to cover stains, chips, or worn tooth enamel. They are often used to treat minor cases of misalignment or crowding. When a tooth has only minor imperfections, such as a small chip or a crack at the gum line, a veneer may be a good alternative to dental crowns. However, if a patient’s teeth are severely misshapen or misaligned, they will likely need multiple porcelain veneers placed over their natural teeth.

Dental veneers are not permanent. They will eventually need to be replaced to maintain your beautiful smile. On average, patients can get about eight years of life out of a single dental veneer before needing to replace their smile makeover treatment. Porcelain veneers can last much longer when they are properly cared for through regular dental hygiene and visits to the dentist for routine examinations and cleanings.

  • Tooth Whitening

If you’re thinking about getting your teeth whitened, we offer both in-office and at-home whitening treatments. We’ll be able to recommend which treatment is best for you based on your goals for treatment, budget, and lifestyle.

Professional teeth whitening involves the application of a highly concentrated solution of hydrogen peroxide on the teeth. The solution can eliminate dental stains and brighten the teeth by up to eight shades. Professional whitening treatment is safer for patients as they are administered by an expert dentist. Patients can enjoy immediate results with a gentle procedure without any side effects.

  • Dental Bonding

Dental bonding is a cosmetic procedure that uses composite resin to fix minor imperfections in the appearance of teeth. The composite material is matched to the natural shade of your teeth, and it is hardened with light before application. The result is a natural-looking restoration that conceals stains, chips, cracks, and other flaws in the smile. This treatment can be completed in a single visit with your dentist, and it is also an affordable option for patients on a budget. It can be used to fix chipped or cracked teeth and even reshape minor imperfections such as small misalignments. This option is a great choice for patients who want a fast and affordable treatment option that will give them the dramatic results of porcelain veneers without the cost or the weeks-long waiting time.

  • Dental Crowns

A dental crown helps restore the form and function of a tooth that has been damaged or broken, weakened by decay, or severely worn down due to age. A crown can be made out of a variety of materials, including porcelain and ceramic, gold and metal alloys, acrylic resin, or a mix of these materials. The shade of the crown can be matched to your natural teeth, making it virtually invisible when you smile.

Generally, multiple appointments are required for placing a crown; however, CEREC technology allows for same-day crowns. During your first appointment at our dental office, your tooth will be prepared for your new restoration. The doctor will then take an impression of the tooth to send to the laboratory for fabrication. Before you leave, a temporary crown will be placed to protect your tooth from damage until the permanent one is ready. Once the custom restoration is finished, you will return to our office for a second visit to have the crown placed over the prepared tooth. Finally, your restorative dentist will adjust the fit and cement your crown in place, completing your visit.
