5 Tips To Protect Your Children's Teeth This Easter

Parents all over the country understand how difficult it is to limit their children's sugar intake during the Easter season. Dental Magic O.C. & Braces is here to guide you on your way to giving your children a healthy, bright smile.

1. Reduce the Frequency of Your Children’s Chocolate Consumption

Your teeth should eat a chocolate egg all at once rather than graze on it throughout the day. This is because slowly grazing on chocolate makes you bathe your teeth in sugar for an extended period. Limit chocolate consumption to once.

2. Consider Alternatives to Chocolate

It's easy to feel bad about only giving children one small chocolate egg for Easter. And it's tempting to alleviate that guilt by purchasing a large number of large chocolate eggs instead. However, there are ways for your children to enjoy Easter without overindulging in chocolate like painting eggs, going for a walk, or going on a treasure hunt.

3. Rinse Your Children's Mouths Thoroughly

We recommend rinsing children's mouths with normal-temperature water frequently. This is because our teeth's enamel becomes softer after we eat. After your child has finished their sweets, instruct them to rinse their mouth with plain water so that their saliva can restore the pH level in their mouth.

4. Keep on Drinking Water

When you think you're hungry, most of the time you are just thirsty. So, while your child is hunting for Easter eggs, keep a bottle of water nearby at all times. A good gulp of water will not only fill their stomach and keep them hydrated, but it will also make them less likely to eat chocolate eggs later.

5. See a Dentist

Even if you've followed our recommendations, it's still a good idea to schedule an appointment with Dental Magic O.C. & Braces so we can examine your child's teeth. If you notice any signs of plaque buildup or cavities, having these issues addressed now will save you from large dental issues later.

If you haven't already scheduled a dental appointment for the Easter holidays, now is a good time to do so. Prevention is preferable to cure, and regular checkups will help to avoid future issues.
